How to become a Crazy Cat Person – Mastering the Art of the Multicat Household

Dr. Thom will cover introducing a second cat, how to choose a friend for your existing cat, how to manage feeding two or more different diets, intercat aggression and  ways of keeping a happy household.

Dr. Emma Thom was born and raised in Toronto, but studied veterinary medicine at the Royal Veterinary College in London, UK. After graduation in 2000, she worked in small animal practice in East Sussex and then later ran a small animal practice in Berkshire.  She successfully gained her certificate in Small Animal Practice (GPCertSAP) in 2005. She met her husband during this time, and in 2006 moved back to Canada and to Ottawa, which she adores.  In 2007, she started working at the Bytown Cat Hospital as a locum and quickly realized that cats were her true passion and began working full time at Merivale Cat Hospital in 2008, aka her “dream job”.

Sadly, a change of job for her husband meant a change of location to Toronto in 2013, where she worked for the Guildcrest Cat Hospital, but after two years of missing Ottawa and missing the Merivale and Bytown Cat Hospitals, she was able to convince her husband to return to Ottawa.

Currently, she is at the Bytown Cat Hospital and shares her home with her husband, two daughters and three spoiled cats.

Cat With A Mat – How To Prevent Them

Some cats and their owners are caught in a vicious cycle of matted shave-down to matted shave-down because of cat grooming myths. Find out what the myths are, what causes mats, the best strategies to remove them, and how education and simple maintenance plans can break the cycle.

Janet Wormitt is a Certified Feline Master Groomer, Certified Feline Creative Groomer, and CAT-a-lyst and Ad-vo-CATe for improving the lives of Canadian cats, one groom at a time. The owner of Cat’s Pajamas Feline Grooming Studio in Ottawa, has 20+ plus years of professional instruction and grooming excellence from breed show champions to cherished companions, locally and internationally. Janet’s experience of grooming gorgeous cats in the Middle East forged a pivotal life changing awareness of how shamefully overlooked cats are in North America. Cat’s Pajamas provides a safe haven and real grooming solutions for today’s cat owners. Janet also coaches privately and internationally, writes, lectures, plus administers grooming certification exams for the National Cat Groomers Institute.
